Jigawa speaker escapes death in convoy accident

The Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, narrowly escaped death after his convoy was involved in an accident on the way to Maigatari Local Government Area.

Dangyatin was heading to a political rally organized by the state government, called “Gwamnati da Jama’a” (Government and the People), when the incident happened.

According to reports, one of the escort vehicles, a black Toyota Hilux carrying police officers, lost control and somersaulted, throwing the officers out.

A witness said the Speaker’s car and other vehicles managed to stop just a few meters from the accident scene.

The injured policemen were rushed to Gumel General Hospital unconscious, but doctors later revived them.

Confirming the incident, the Speaker’s Personal Assistant, Aqeel Akilu, said there were no deaths and that all the officers have since been discharged from the hospital.

He said: “There is no loss of lives. All the police involved in the accident are now feeling better as they were discharged from hospital”.
