Di Lorenzo was shown a straight red card for a last-man tackle on Erling Haaland.

It was Haaland who opened the scoring in the second half, heading home Phil Foden’s pass.

Jeremy Doku produced a moment of individual brilliance to double their lead.

On his return to England, Marcus Rashford scored a brace as Barcelona beat Newcastle United 2-1 at St James’ Park.

In other games, Club Brugge thrashed Monaco 4-1, Frankfurt hammered Galatasaray 5-1, and Bayer Leverkusen were held to a 2-2 draw by FC Copenhagen.
