Socialite, Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has celebrated the academic milestone of Ekuma Jeremiah, the Lagos traffic hawker who captured national attention in 2022 after his act of generosity went viral.
Ekuma, a former roadside vendor, became a sensation when he was filmed handing out money to inmates inside a Nigerian Correctional Service vehicle in Ajah, Lagos.
The clip touched millions across the country and earned him recognition, including support from Obi Cubana.
Reflecting on their encounter, Cubana revealed that Jeremiah was offered financial assistance and several lucrative opportunities.
However, he turned them down to focus on completing his law degree at Ebonyi State University.
Sharing the update via Instagram on Monday, Cubana praised Jeremiah’s decision and determination.
“On January 19, 2022, when opportunities were placed before you, you chose education! You made the best choice. Today, you are a 2025 law graduate,” he wrote.
The socialite commended Jeremiah’s foresight, adding that while he could have opted for short-term comfort, his choice of education has now positioned him for greater opportunities.
From hawking goods in Lagos traffic to graduating as a lawyer, Jeremiah’s journey has become a symbol of resilience and the transformative power of education.
Cubana concluded his post with a message of encouragement: “Congratulations Jerry, the world is yours!”
