A shop being used as canteen in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, has been ravaged by an early morning inferno.
DAILY POST gathered that the inferno also affected an abandoned building beside the canteen.
Our correspondent learnt that the incident occurred at Akorede Street opposite The Polytechnic Ibadan.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday.
No life was lost in the incident.
It was learnt that the fire destroyed the canteen and part of the building.
Chairman of Oyo State Fire Service, Hon Maroof Akinwande, when contacted, confirmed the incident.
Akinwande made this declaration via a statement made available to DAILY POST on Tuesday.
He said that the fire incident was as a result of appliance not switched off and unplugged before leaving the canteen.
Akinwande, in the statement, added that the presence of policemen from Sango Division was recognized for fire cover during the operation.
He said, “The fire incident was reported at exactly 00:57 hrs on Tuesday 23rd September, 2025. The agency’s officers led by CFS Olayiwola Tunde quickly deployed to the scene of the incident.
“Upon arrival, it was a shop made of planks used as canteen and an abandoned building engulfed by fire. Our officers swiftly swung into action and restricted the fire from spreading to the whole building and other nearby properties.
“No casualty was recorded and the fire destroyed the canteen and part of the building. The agency was able to save properties worth millions of naira and the fire incident was as a result of appliance not switched off and unplugged before leaving the canteen.
“The presence of policemen from Sango Division was recognized for fire cover during the operation.”
