Six African countries confirm qualification for 2026 World Cup

Cape Verde have become the sixth African country to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup.

The small island nation have also become the second-smallest to qualify, following a 3-0 thrashing of Eswatini on Monday night.

The result ensured that the Blue Sharks finished top of their group ahead of heavyweights Cameroon.

Dailon Livramento opened the scoring for the hosts in Praia, before Willy Semedo volleyed in a second.

Veteran defender Stopira added the third in stoppage time.

Fans stormed the 15,000-capacity National Stadium at full time, celebrating their nation’s first-ever appearance at the World Cup.

Other African teams that have qualified include Tunisia, Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, and Algeria.
