A Nigerian lady has taken to X (Twitter) to share an experience that led to the end of a long-time friendship.
According to the woman, her friend, who has been married for some time and is reportedly trying to conceive (TTC), accused her of being insensitive for never bringing up the issue of her childlessness.
Despite the fact that she had been privately praying for her friend to conceive, the lady admitted she struggled with how to approach such a delicate topic directly.
The woman went on to explain that her friend didn’t give her the chance to respond or explain. Instead, she blocked her and ended their friendship, saying she was no longer interested in the relationship.
“My old-time friend has been married for a while now, a TTC mum, 1 day she challenged me that I’m a bad person. I never for once ask her why she’s yet to give birth any issues. Meanwhile, I sincerely don’t know how to ask her, and also how she’s going to feel if I ask such a question, the reason being I always put her in my prayers. Was I truly at fault for not asking?“ She wrote.
The story has sparked conversation online, with many internet users debating who was truly at fault, the friend for expecting verbal support, or the lady for remaining silent despite her good intentions.
Below are some of the comments;
“Try visiting her and explaining your part, you did no wrong. She’s just overwhelmed and needs someone to talk to.”
“When you’re interceeding for someone and the answer is close, the devil finds a way to bring up offense or quarrel between you too. Find a way to settle with her, don’t stop praying for her.”
“She just overreacted, but maybe you should have jokingly asked if she’s kicking well with her husband, and that’s you can wait to be an auntie lol, but it is well; it’s an interplay of privacy and over-avoidance.”
