Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke is expected to make a formal announcement on the political party he will use for his 2026 governorship re-election bid once he returns from his current foreign trip.
This confirmation came from former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola on Monday, who revealed that consultations on the matter are already underway and will be concluded immediately the governor arrives in the country.
Oyinlola addressed the rising speculation about Adeleke’s likely defection, saying several options are being reviewed.
He noted that Accord stands out as a credible alternative but stressed that he would only follow Adeleke to a platform that aligns with his own political values.
He disclosed that he had rejected moves toward the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that his experience with the party does not encourage him to return.
According to him, APC has a history of failing to honour internal agreements, and he does not intend to compromise his stance.
Oyinlola said discussions about Adeleke’s future platform are necessary due to the prolonged internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the national level.
He warned that the unresolved issues could jeopardize Adeleke’s chances of securing the PDP’s ticket ahead of the election.
He emphasized that once the governor returns, stakeholders will meet and communicate their final position to the public.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set December 15, 2025, as the deadline for political parties to submit their candidates for the August 8, 2026 Osun governorship poll — a timeline that intensifies the pressure on Adeleke’s camp to finalize their plan.
Oyinlola also reviewed Adeleke’s performance so far, noting that while no administration enjoys universal approval, the government’s impact has been felt across the state.
He further expressed worry over the national situation, citing economic hardship and growing insecurity as issues that require urgent attention.
