Bauchi governor declares Friday work-free to honour late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has declared Friday, November 28, 2025, a work-free day across the state to honour the late Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.

DAILY POST reports that Bala Mohammed had earlier announced the passing of the renowned Islamic scholar and spiritual leader, who died in the early hours of Thursday at the age of 102.

Our correspondent gathered that the respected cleric passed away on Wednesday night at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, ATBUTH, Bauchi. His body has been moved to the family residence along Gombe Road, where funeral prayers are scheduled for later today.

According to the statement, the work-free day has been declared to allow government workers, students, followers, and the general public to participate in the funeral prayers and pay their last respects.

The funeral prayer is scheduled to take place tomorrow in accordance with Islamic rites.

The governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, said in a statement: “This decision is a mark of respect for the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, whose life and legacy in Islamic scholarship, Qur’anic education, spiritual mentorship, and promotion of peace and unity have left a profound impact in Nigeria and beyond.”

The government also urged citizens to join in prayers for the repose of Sheikh Bauchi’s soul and to offer support and comfort to his family, students, and followers.

“May the soul of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi rest in eternal peace. Ameen,” the statement concluded.
