The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide, has called on the state government to take immediate action on security concerns raised during plenary, even as he appealed for the strict enforcement of existing laws and the implementation of earlier resolutions passed by the Assembly to safeguard residents and citizens of the state.

He further urged Governor Dapo Abiodun to urgently implement the security recommendations reached at the South-West Governors’ Meeting in Ibadan, alongside those agreed at the Southern Governors’ Forum meeting held in Iperu on November 26.

The call followed a presentation by a member representing Yewa North I State Constituency, Adegoke Adeyanju, who reported security concerns in parts of Ogun West arising from the influx of herders and ongoing open grazing activities in his constituency, including Oja Odan, Ilaro and adjoining communities. The matter was raised during Thursday’s plenary at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The Speaker also directed the Chairman, House Committee on Lands and Housing, Damilola Kayode Soneye, to convene a meeting with the Surveyor-General and other relevant stakeholders to address allegations of land takeover by military personnel in Ijebu North-East, as reported by a member representing the constituency, Oluseun Adesanya.

Adesanya had earlier raised concerns over rising tension in Itele, reportedly caused by the Nigerian Army, which was said to have fenced off between 20 and 25 villages. He warned that the development had triggered fears of displacement, widespread apprehension and the potential for conflict among residents.
