Terrorists abduct pregnant women, farmers in Niger village raid

Gunmen suspected to be terrorists have kidnapped about 20 farmers in the suburb village of Erana town in Shiroro of Niger State, including four pregnant women and an 8-years old child during the invasion in Angwar Kawo.

The gunmen, a community source, who spoke to newsmen on Thursday, confirmed that the abduction occurred on Wednesday in Erana ward of Shiroro.

“There was an attack in Erena ward yesterday earlier in the morning in which 9 people were abducted. They rode in 15 bikes with 3 of them in each bike”, Erena told this reporter in Telephone chat.

He further stated that the terrorists attacked with sophisticated weapons even with MMG, scaring residents and shooting.

“But there were no casualties, only the abduction of four male and five females,including 2 pregnant women with an 8-year child”, he said. They took away two new Bajaj motorcycles during the raid”.

According to him, The terrorists didn’t shoot sporadically when they arrived but shot when they were about to leave. They shot Ak-riffles to signal that they were around.

He further stated that 9 only persons were confirmed to be kidnapped in Ungwar Kawo.

The leader of National Youth council, Ahmed Tanko Erena, also confirmed the incident to our reporter that gunmen seized farmers in Kawo village in Shiroro on Wednesday morning.

“They came in around 10am to 1pm. They took people up to 20. Four of them are pregnant women and children. And our security went there but before they reached the scene”, he said.

In his words, “The terrorists had led the scene as the road was not motorable when security operatives arrived at the scene”.

Tanko said the invaded community is a bushy area where whatever the terrorists came to do will do without hindrance.

The police spokesman in the state, Wasiu Abiodun also confirmed the incident but said that only 10 persons were kidnapped during the raid.

“On November 26, 2025 at about 8pm, a report indicated that suspected armed men abducted about ten persons from Angwan-Kawo & Kuchipa villages of Shiroro Local govt area”, his message to our reporter reads.

He stated further that effort is being emplaced to rescue the victims.
