…Lauds NewsDirect professionalism
The member representing Ifako-Ijaiye Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Olabinjo has expressed joy after receiving the Lawmaker of the Year (Constituency Projects) award at the Nigerian NewsDirect 15th Anniversary & Awards Ceremony.
“I feel highly excited for this opportunity and for allowing people to see what I have done in the past. I am really happy,” he said on Friday shortly after receiving the honour.
The event was attended by notable dignitaries including the Lagos State Governor, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr. Lanre Adetokunbo Bajulaye; the Olota of Ota, Oba (Prof.) Adeyemi Abdulkabir Obalanlege; Chairman of Gibraltar Construction Nigeria Limited, Sir Olu Okeowo; Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Abba Abubakar Aliyu; Managing Director of Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority, Engr. (Dr.) Adedeji Ashiru; Hon. Benjamin Olabinjo himself; and the Managing Director of Fidelity Bank, represented by Executive Director, Risk Management, Kevin Ugwuoke, among several distinguished personalities.
Olabinjo credited his recognition to a large empowerment programme he organised in December 2023, saying it played a major role in placing his constituency work in the spotlight.
He assured residents that more projects and support packages are on the way.
“With what I’m seeing, another empowerment is coming. I will try my best to do more for my constituency,” he promised.
Speaking on national issues, the lawmaker urged constituents to exercise patience with the Federal Government, stating that progress is ongoing even if results are gradual.
“There is a lot going on in the Federal Government to improve things for us. But everything is not going to happen in one day. We are doing it bit by bit,” he explained.
On youth empowerment, Olabinjo advised young people to stop relying solely on white-collar jobs, stressing the value of small-scale support initiatives.
“I have empowered many youths. Young people should not wait for white-collar jobs anymore because it cannot help anybody. Whatever little you get, use it well,” he said.
He added that those who manage their empowerment packages responsibly can build sustainable livelihoods from them.
Reacting to questions about job placements, Olabinjo confirmed that he has helped many youths secure employment over the years but emphasised that not every effort must be publicised.
“We have done a lot in terms of helping people get jobs. We have been doing this since 2008, and it is not everything we can mention. Those who believe in what we do know,” he said.
The lawmaker also praised Nigerian NewsDirect for its professionalism, urging the organisation to continue its credible work.
