NELFund records 1.19m applicants, disburses loan to 788,000 students

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFund, has said that at least 788,947 students have so far benefited from the student loan scheme, out of 1,193,228 applications received since the portal was launched.

NELFund made the disclosure in data sheets shared via its social media handles on Sunday.

According to the report, no fewer than 3,367 new applications were submitted the previous day, while 262 tertiary institutions had received payments totalling N82.34 billion for tuition fees as of November 12, 2025.

The agency further explained that it has also disbursed N58.53 billion as upkeep allowances directly to students.

The fund put the total value of loans disbursed at N140.88 billion.

In a separate weekly summary report covering November 24 to 30, the agency said 35,773 applications were successfully completed within the period.

The weekly update maintained that total applications remain at 1,193,228 since inception.

It also reiterated that 262 institutions and 788,947 students have benefited from both tuition and upkeep disbursements.
