The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has revealed that Governor Ademola Adeleke may no longer be interested in seeking the party’s nomination for the 2026 governorship election, unless the crises rocking the party at the national level are resolved within the timeframe recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This was disclosed on Monday in Osogbo by the Osun State PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, who addressed journalists on the party’s inability to hold its governorship primary earlier slated for 2 December 2025.

Bisi explained that although Governor Adeleke had fully complied with the party’s nomination timetable—purchasing and submitting nomination forms between 13 and 25 October 2025 and appearing before the screening committee on 30 October, where he was cleared—the worsening internal crisis within the PDP stalled further progress.

According to him, “soon after these pre-primary processes were concluded, the internal imbroglio rocking the national leadership of our party escalated.” He noted that the suspension and counter-suspension of key national officers, who are central to organising congresses and transmitting candidates’ names to INEC, created uncertainty that disrupted the entire schedule.

The turbulence, he added, made it impossible to hold the statutory ad-hoc ward and local government congresses fixed for 24 and 29 November respectively—processes through which delegates to the governorship primaries are elected. These issues, Bisi said, are now tied up in multiple court cases across the country.

“In light of the foregoing, it has become inevitable, indeed unavoidable, that the PDP governorship primaries earlier slated for Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025, can no longer hold as scheduled,” he announced.

Bisi went further to reveal that, based on available information, Adeleke may no longer be interested in contesting for the PDP ticket for the 2026 election unless a resolution—formally recognised by INEC—is reached within the commission’s stipulated timeline.

New Daily Prime reports that the national crisis has split the PDP into factions, complicating preparations for upcoming elections. According to INEC’s timetable for the 8 August Osun governorship poll, political parties have until 15 December to submit names of their candidates.

With deadlines fast approaching and internal battles unresolved, the future of Adeleke’s second-term bid under the PDP remains uncertain.
