Niger: Veiled bandits attack Tudun-Fulani, shoot woman in failed abduction attempt

Armed bandits disguised in veils attacked Tudun-Fulani village near Bangi in Niger State, shooting a woman during a failed attempt to abduct her, authorities said on Monday.

The attack occurred on November 29 at about 10 p.m. when six armed men stormed the community and targeted a resident, Hadiza Alh. Mande. According to security sources quoted by Zagazola Makama, the victim tried to escape but was shot as she fled.

“She attempted to run for safety, but the attackers opened fire and shot her,” a police source confirmed.

A combined team of police officers and vigilante members responded immediately.

“We mobilised to the scene as soon as the distress call came in,” the source said. Hadiza was taken to the General Hospital in Bangi, where officials say she is responding to treatment.

The attackers escaped before security forces arrived, but police say efforts to track them down are underway. “We are making every frantic effort to identify and apprehend the suspects,” the police added.

Authorities urged residents to stay alert and report suspicious movements to security agencies to support ongoing counter-banditry operations in the area.
