The commissioner, represented by Olajumoke James, a Deputy Director in the Ministry, commended Nigerian Breweries for championing a project that combines “aesthetics, culture, community bonding, and economic value.”
In her address, the commissioner described the Light Up Lagos initiative as a significant contribution to the creative and tourism landscape of Lagos State, noting that it aligns with the government’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda.
The project is intended to promote tourism, enhance social cohesion, and position Lagos as a global centre for culture, entertainment, and innovation.
Benson-Awoyinka said the illumination of the Chief Obafemi Awolowo Monument and the entire Obafemi Awolowo Way is not only visually appealing but also symbolises unity, shared joy, and the vibrant spirit of the Lagos community.
The project incorporates community engagement activities such as live performances, creative showcases, and youth-centred artistic expressions.
The commissioner expressed delight that these activities would stimulate local commerce, provide safe entertainment for families, and deepen cultural appreciation across the state.
The flagship brand sponsoring this year’s activation is Maltina.
The commissioner applauded the brand and Nigerian Breweries Plc for demonstrating “exemplary corporate social responsibility” and stressed the importance of sustained public–private collaborations in expanding the state’s tourism economy.
