
President Bola Tinubu has nominated General Christopher Musa as the new Minister of Defence.
He’ll succeed Badaru Abubakar, who resigned on Monday, on health-related issues.
Tinubu conveyed Musa’s nomination in a letter to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, according to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

In his letter to the Senate, Tinubu expressed confidence in Musa’s ability to lead the Ministry of Defence and further strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.
Musa, who will turn 58 on December 25, is a distinguished soldier whose career includes serving as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) from 2023 until October 2025.
He is also a recipient of the Colin Powell Award for Soldiering in 2012.
His extensive service in the Nigerian Army, which began with his commission as a Second Lieutenant in 1991, includes several key roles.
He served as Chief of Defence Staff from 2023 to October 2025.
In 2021, he was the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai.
In 2019, he commanded Sector 3 of Operation Lafiya Dole and also led Sector 3 of the Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad region.
His other appointments include Commander of the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps; General Staff Officer 1, Training and Operations at Headquarters 81 Division; and Commanding Officer, 73 Battalion, among others.

Born in Sokoto in 1967, Musa graduated from the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
Musa was sacked by Tinubu in October as chief of defence staff.
Olufemi Oluyede, a lieutenant general was appointed in his place.
