Senate President Godswill Akpabio has asserted that Nigeria is destined to prevail in its ongoing struggle against insecurity, drawing a parallel with the global victory over COVID-19.

Speaking on Wednesday during the ministerial screening of former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, nominated for the position of Defence Minister, Akpabio expressed unwavering optimism.

“If God could assist the world in winning the war against COVID-19, then we can win the war against insecurity,” he declared. “We shall win the war against insecurity.”

Deliberately avoiding discussions on potential collaborators, conspiracies, or enemies of the state, the Senate President focused on unity and resolve.

“We don’t want to talk about the collaborators, we don’t want to talk about any conspiracies, we don’t want to talk about the enemies of Nigeria and the government,” he said. “We just want to win the war.”

The remarks came as the Senate vetted General Musa, whose extensive military background is expected to bolster efforts in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges, including insurgency, banditry, and terrorism.

Akpabio’s comments underscore the government’s determination to tackle insecurity head-on, amid calls for enhanced strategies and resources.

The screening process highlights President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s focus on strengthening defence capabilities.
