Former Director of the Department of State Services, DSS, Mike Ejiofor, says the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, lacks the capacity for the protection of Very Important Personalities, VIPs.
Ejiofor stated this on Tuesday in an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television monitored by DAILY POST.
He was reacting to President Bola Tinubu’s directive to transfer VIP protection duties from the police to the NSCDC, insisting that the corps neither has the manpower nor the training to take on such a sensitive role.
According to him, the directive, although well-intentioned, poses operational challenges for the NSCDC.
“The NSCDC does not have the capacity; they are not trained for it. They don’t have the numbers to deploy, and their statutory function is to provide security for critical infrastructure.
“That means you would also have to train them for VIP protection, so it is a very dicey situation,” Ejiofor said.
