In a dramatic escalation of the internal crisis within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), rival factions led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki and Nyesom Wike have issued contradictory public disclaimers, each declaring different sets of high-profile politicians as no longer members of the Party.
The Turaki-led faction released a statement to the public asserting that Nyesom Wike and several others had been formally expelled at the 2025 Elective National Convention held in Ibadan.
According to the faction, the individuals listed no longer hold membership or authority within the PDP and should not be recognised as representing the Party in any capacity.
In response, the Wike-aligned faction issued its own disclaimer, countering the claims and announcing that a different group of senior politicians—namely Governors Seyi Makinde, Bala Mohammed, Dauda Lawal Dare, among others—were no longer members of the PDP. The statement similarly warned the public against associating these individuals with the Party.
The competing disclaimers highlight the deepening fragmentation within the PDP, with both sides asserting legitimacy and accusing the other of overreach. As both factions attempt to redefine the Party’s leadership and membership structure, the political landscape has been thrown into further uncertainty.
Observers note that the conflict signals an intensifying battle for control, with implications that may extend into upcoming electoral cycles unless reconciliation efforts emerge.
