Police have arrested a 25-year-old man after several people were sprayed with a substance believed to be pepper spray during an altercation at Heathrow Airport’sTerminal 3 car park.
According to the Metropolitan Police, a dispute involving a group of people who were known to one another escalated into violence late night.
Five people were taken to hospital for treatment, while 16 others were assessed at the scene by emergency medical teams. Officers say additional suspects are being sought, but stressed that the incident is isolated and not connected to terrorism or any form of protest activity.
Heathrow Airport confirmed that its emergency teams worked alongside police and paramedics in the multi-storey car park, where all entrances remained closed on Monday morning.
Passengers arriving at Terminal 3 encountered queues near the train station and restricted movement around the car park, though airport operations and flights continued as normal.
Despite the heavy presence of emergency vehicles outside the parking facility, the terminal itself appeared calm, with travellers moving through check-in areas and boarding gates without disruption. Airline staff reported that flight schedules were unaffected.
Some workers, experienced inconvenience. A flight crew arriving from Bengaluru said their staff bus was unable to access the car park, leaving them waiting in light rain after more than 10 hours in the air. They acknowledged the disruption but expressed understanding, noting that emergency services must follow established protocols.
Police continue investigating the incident and have urged the public to allow extra travel time when heading to the airport while cordons remain in place.
