Fintiri imposes 24-hour curfew in Adamawa community

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, on Monday ordered a 24-hour curfew in Lamurde Local Government Area (LGA) following renewed communal violence that erupted on Sunday evening.

The directive, communicated through a statement by Hussaini Hammangabdo, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, came in response to violent clashes and a breakdown of peace in several communities within the LGA.

Security agencies have been instructed to move promptly into affected areas to stabilise the situation and safeguard lives and property.

In a supporting statement, the Adamawa State Police Command confirmed that it is fully mobilised to enforce the curfew.

Police Commissioner Dankombo Morris, has deployed additional operational manpower and resources to Lamurde to ensure compliance.

The police urged residents to stay indoors and cooperate with security operatives, warning that miscreants and other elements that threaten law and order would not be allowed to operate unchallenged.

The statement emphasised that enforcement would be carried out with respect for citizens’ rights while taking all necessary legal measures to prevent further unrest.

“The Adamawa State Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, is committed to monitoring compliance and enforcing the curfew while avoiding actions that may result in loss of life,” the press release signed by Suleiman Nguroje, the force spokesperson, stated.

Authorities have appealed to the public to remain calm and support the security agencies’ efforts to restore peace in Lamurde.
