Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara is holding a private meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Newsmen saw the governor heading toward the President’s office at exactly 5:01 p.m., dressed in a deep-blue long-sleeve shirt, black trousers, and a black flat cap.
Just moments before, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru had also arrived for a separate appointment.
As of press time, neither meeting has been made public.
Fubara’s visit comes at a time of renewed political tension in Rivers State and rising speculation about his possible move from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
The speculation intensified after 17 lawmakers aligned with the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule declared their defection from the PDP to the APC last Friday, December 5. Their switch immediately altered the power dynamics in the state assembly.
Meanwhile, the three legislators viewed as Fubara loyalists have not resumed sitting since emergency rule was lifted on September 18, leaving questions about the governor’s stability within his party.
Fubara returned to office earlier in the year after President Tinubu ended the emergency rule first imposed on March 18.
Nwifuru, an APC governor who previously served as Speaker of the Ebonyi House of Assembly, has also been in ongoing discussions with the Presidency on issues relating to infrastructure and security in the South-East.
