The Rivers State Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Leader Sampson, has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of indecisiveness following his announcement that he is defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking in an exclusive interview on wednesday, Sampson criticised the governor for failing to consult the people of Rivers State before taking the decision.

He argued that convening a small group of supporters does not constitute genuine consultation with the electorate that entrusted him with the mandate.

“No serious Rivers person will take Governor Fubara seriously,” Sampson declared.

“He has consistently shown himself to be inconsistent and indecisive. Whether he was summoned by the Presidency or went cap-in-hand begging to join the APC, the fact remains that he has not sought the consent of the people who voted for him.”

The ADC chairman pointed out that Governor Fubara openly acknowledged President Bola Tinubu as the reason he remains in office and suggested that joining the APC was merely a gesture of gratitude.

Sampson dismissed this as inadequate justification for abandoning the platform on which the governor was elected.

He described the defection as further evidence that many Nigerian leaders lack the resolve to stand firm on critical issues, adding that the development nonetheless presents an opportunity for his party.

“For the ADC, this is a welcome turn of events,” he said.

“It confirms that the people of Rivers State and Nigeria as a whole have rejected the APC because of the hardship, poverty, insecurity, terrorism, and banditry that have flourished under its watch. By aligning himself with that same APC,  Fubara has effectively turned his back on Rivers people.”

Sampson maintained that citizens are weary of travelling on roads plagued by kidnappings and killings, and view the ruling party as the architect of their current woes.

He insisted that the ADC is strategically positioned to offer a credible alternative.

Addressing perceptions that the ADC has been unusually quiet despite its ambition to become the country’s main opposition, Sampson explained that the party has deliberately worked behind the scenes to build solid structures.

“When the moment is right,” he assured, “the ADC will unveil its plans and present itself clearly to the people of Rivers State and the nation as the viable, principled choice they have been waiting for.”
