Famous Nollywood actor and filmmaker Stanley Ajemba, widely known as Stanley Ontop, has been arrested over allegations of defamation.
The actor was reportedly picked up by officers of the Delta State Police Command on Tuesday following a petition filed by actress Queeneth Hilbeth.
News of the arrest spread quickly after Stanley’s associate and activist, Mama Pee, raised the alarm on social media.
Mama Pee posted a series of updates on her Instagram story, accusing the actress of using the police to intimidate the actor instead of seeking justice through the courts.
In her posts, Mama Pee questioned the handling of the case and the continued detention of the actor at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Asaba.
She expressed concern that the issue was being treated as a criminal matter rather than a civil dispute.
“Stanley Ontop arrested and detained in SCID Asaba!” she wrote. “Free Stanley Ontop. @queenethhilbert, you all should stop using police to harass people. Dear Queeneth Hilbeth, how about going to court instead of using police to intimidate? Whoever has a case should go to court. Or is defamation not for court again?”
Her outcry sparked reactions across social media, with many fans and colleagues calling for transparency in the matter. They also urged authorities to ensure that both parties are treated fairly.
So far, the Delta State Police Command has not issued a formal statement explaining the circumstances leading to Stanley’s arrest or the nature of the petition submitted by Queeneth Hilbeth.
Efforts to get comments from both Hilbeth and her representatives have also been unsuccessful, leaving many questions unanswered.
Stanley Ontop, known for his outspoken nature and strong presence on social media, has had several public disagreements within the film industry over the years.
However, this is the first time he has faced an arrest linked to allegations of defamation.
As the controversy grows, colleagues, fans, and industry bodies are expected to weigh in. Many are calling for a peaceful resolution and urging both sides to allow the legal process to take its course without further confrontation.
