Aliko Dangote has levelled serious allegations of corruption against the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed. Dangote alleged that Ahmed expended approximately $5 million on secondary school education for his four children in Switzerland — an expenditure he described as inconsistent with the legitimate earnings of a career public servant.

Speaking at a media briefing held at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Fertiliser Plant, Lekki, Lagos, Dangote argued that such spending undermines public confidence in regulatory institutions and raises questions about income declaration, conflicts of interest, and integrity in the downstream petroleum sector. He contrasted the alleged expenditure with the struggles of ordinary Nigerians, many of whom cannot afford ₦100,000 in local school fees.

Dangote emphasised that the matter should not result in immediate dismissal but must be subjected to investigation by the Code of Conduct Bureau or other competent authorities to determine whether Ahmed’s declared income aligns with the alleged payments. He warned that if the allegation is denied, he would pursue legal action to compel disclosure from the schools involved.

The billionaire industrialist stressed that taxpayers deserve accountability and insisted that civil servants must not compromise their positions at the expense of Nigerians. As of the time of reporting, Ahmed has not issued a response to the allegations.
