Residents of Ile-Tuntun, Alafara, Elenunsonso and other neighbouring communities in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State have appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde not to allow them to be cut off from neighbouring communities.
The residents noted that the Adetokun Alaguntan Bridge, which serves more than forty communities in Ido Local Government Area, is on the verge of collapse.
They made these assertions during a peaceful protest held across the communities at the weekend.
It was learnt that the bridge was constructed during the administration of the immediate past governor, Abiola Ajimobi.
Speaking during the protest, the residents said the bridge poses a serious risk to lives.
The Chairman of the Ile-Tuntun, Alafara and Elenunsonso communities, Engineer Wahab Alabi, noted that several efforts had been made by residents to draw the attention of the authorities to the situation.
He said that if the bridge collapses, residents of the affected communities would be completely cut off from accessing other parts of the state.
He added that the protest became necessary to attract the required attention of the government.
Alabi used the opportunity to appeal to Makinde and the Ido Local Government authorities to intervene urgently and prevent the bridge from total collapse.
