Enugu Chief Judge swears in 27 senior lawyers as Notaries Public

The Chief Judge of Enugu State, Hon. Justice A. R. Ozoemena has sworn in 27 senior lawyers as Notaries Public of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Justice Ozoemena performed the function at the Enugu State High Court Complex.

The senior lawyers were appointed by the Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria.

The swearing-in followed the approval of the appointees’ instruments of oath by the Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria.

The appointees had earlier been formally notified through letters signed by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, conveying that the approved oath instruments had been forwarded to the Honourable Chief Judge of Enugu State for administration.

Our correspondent reports that a Notary Public is a public officer appointed to serve as an impartial witness in the execution of important legal documents and to help prevent fraud.

They are empowered to witness and authenticate signatures, administer oaths and affirmations, certify documents as true copies, attest to affidavits and statutory declarations, and notarize legal, commercial, and official documents.

Notarization confers legal credibility and public trust on documents, particularly in relation to court processes, property transactions, powers of attorney, and international or official filings.

In Nigeria, the appointment of a Notary Public is made by the Chief Justice of Nigeria pursuant to the Notaries Public Act, and appointees are typically legal practitioners of considerable standing at the Bar.

Those sworn in include Ikechukwu Maximus Ugwuoke, Esq, Chinazor Dominica Nwankwo, Esq, Ejike Michael Ugwu, Esq, Blessing Okoye, Esq, Chidi Emmanuel Ezenwa, Esq, Joy Obianuju Nnani, Esq, Benjamin Emeka Enyiagu, Esq, Ede Festus Alu, Esq, Uchechukwu Ifeanyi Enoch, Esq, Chioma Linda Okeke, Esq, Chukwuebuka Gabriel Ogo, Esq and 12. Raphael Obinna Asadu, Esq.
