The move comes as part of efforts to strengthen regulatory oversight in the electricity sector, aligning with the provisions of the Electricity Act 2023, which emphasises decentralisation and improved efficiency.
The reconstituted board is chaired by Dr Musiliu Olalekan Oseni. He who joined as a Commissioner in January 2017 and later served as Vice Chairman, assumes the chairmanship effective 1 December 2025. His tenure will continue until the completion of his 10-year service at the Commission.
Others include Dr Yusuf Ali as Vice Chairman, Mr Nathan Rogers Shatti as Commissioner (second term, initially appointed January 2017), Dafe Akpeneye as Commissioner (second term, initially appointed January 2017), Mrs Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello also as Commissioner (initially appointed December 2020), Dr Chidi Ike as Commissioner (first term appointed February 2022), and Dr Fouad Animashaun as Commissioner (first term, effective December 2025).
In a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy on Thursday, Tinubu charged the new board to deepen the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector.

Tinubu emphasised strict adherence to the letter and spirit of the Electricity Act 2023, aiming to enhance reliability, attract investment, and address longstanding challenges in generation, transmission, and distribution.
This reconstitution follows recent leadership transitions at NERC and underscores the administration’s commitment to regulatory stability amid broader reforms, including the devolution of powers to state-level electricity markets.
