Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has again displayed his passion for football by placing a $25,000 bet (about N36 million) on Nigeria’s opening Group C match against Tanzania at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The singer shared a screenshot of his betting slip on his X handle on Sunday, encouraging support for the Super Eagles with the caption: “Let’s get this W Nigeria.”

The Stake app slip shows that Davido backed both teams to score, with a potential payout of $96,564, estimated at about N140 million.

This is not the first time the award-winning artiste has placed a public wager on Nigeria’s national team. Ahead of the Super Eagles’ last competitive fixture against Gabon in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Davido staked $10,000 (N15 million), predicting a Nigerian win with both teams scoring — a bet that carried a possible return of $50,194.58 (N75.2 million). Nigeria, however, lost that match.

While some observers view the move as part of his role as a Stake brand ambassador, others have criticised it as putting financial gain above national pride.

Nigeria will face Tanzania’s Taifa Stars on Tuesday, December 23, at the Complexe Sportif de Fès in Morocco, as they begin their campaign for a fourth AFCON title.

The three-time African champions, led by stars such as Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, are favourites in Group C, which also includes Tunisia and Uganda.

However, Nigeria’s recent failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup has tempered expectations, leaving even ardent supporters cautiously optimistic.
