Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed deep sympathy to the government and people of Bayelsa State following the death of its Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
Fubara, leading a high-powered delegation, visited his Bayelsa counterpart, Douye Diri, at the Government House in Yenagoa yesterday.
He noted that the bond between the two states is so deep that whatever impacts Bayelsa has a ripple effect on Rivers.

Addressing Diri, Fubara emphasised the unity between the neighboring states, stating that Rivers people are also in grief over the loss of Senator Ewhrudjakpo, who died on December 11 at the age of 60.
“Rivers and Bayelsa would remain as one people. While you in Bayelsa are grieving, our state is also grieving,” Fubara said.
“Our story in Rivers cannot be complete without some aspects of Bayelsa. It is only proper for us to come and condole with you.”
He offered his state’s full support during this difficult period, acknowledging that while no words can fill the void of such a loss, “only God can fill the void.”
In his response, Diri thanked Fubara for the visit, noting that he was the first sitting governor to pay a formal condolence visit.
Diri highlighted the strong personal and administrative relationship between the two leaders, citing their successful resolution of long-standing regional disputes.
“As governors, both of us have collaborated quietly to resolve the Soku oil well dispute that predated our administrations,” Diri revealed.
He assured that both states would continue to work together as “brother states” to settle any future issues amicably.
Following the meeting at the Government House, both governors proceeded to the official residence of the late deputy governor.

There, they offered words of comfort to his widow, Beatrice Ewhrudjakpo, and other family members.
The visit reaffirms the commitment of both governors—who both belong to the same political party—to maintain peace and regional integration in the Niger Delta.
