Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen was arrested early Sunday morning, just days after signing a one-year contract with his new team. The 34-year-old NFL veteran was booked on two misdemeanor charges after authorities accused him of driving while intoxicated in downtown Indianapolis. His arrest came only hours after Allen made his preseason debut for the Colts during their loss to the Detroit Lions.
According to jail records obtained by TMZ, Allen was arrested at approximately 1 a.m. ET on Sunday. The six-time Pro Bowl selection was booked on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and endangering another person, as well as driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or higher. Both charges were listed as misdemeanors.
Allen was taken to the Marion County Arrestee Processing Center following his arrest. Additional information about the circumstances leading up to the traffic stop was not included in the available report. The allegations against Allen have not been proven in court.
Indianapolis Colts Respond To Wide Receiver’s Arrest
The Colts acknowledged Allen’s arrest but declined to provide further details as the organization works to learn more about what allegedly occurred. “We are aware of the incident involving Keenan Allen last night,” they said. “We are in the process of gathering more information and have no further comment at this time.”

Allen’s legal situation comes at an especially difficult time for Indianapolis, which had only recently added the veteran receiver to its roster.

Allen took the field for the Colts during Saturday’s preseason game against the Detroit Lions. Indianapolis lost the matchup 25-16, but Allen made an early contribution by catching a 24-yard pass from quarterback Anthony Richardson during the team’s opening series. It was his only target and reception of the game.
The preseason appearance marked Allen’s first game action in a Colts uniform. Hours later, he was taken into custody in downtown Indianapolis. Allen had signed a one-year contract with the Colts on August 19. According to The Associated Press, the deal could be worth as much as $8.32 million.
The agreement gave Indianapolis an accomplished veteran option as the team prepared for the regular season. However, the arrest now creates uncertainty around Allen shortly after the beginning of his Colts tenure.
Keenan Allen Joined Indianapolis After Lengthy NFL Career
Allen enters his 14th NFL season as one of the league’s most productive active wide receivers. The Chargers selected him in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft with the No. 76 overall pick. He spent the first 11 seasons of his career with the organization before moving to the Chicago Bears in 2024 following a contract dispute. Allen later returned to the Chargers, catching 81 passes during his most recent season with the team before signing with Indianapolis.
Across 13 NFL seasons, Allen has recorded 1,055 receptions for 12,051 yards and 70 touchdowns. He has exceeded 1,000 receiving yards six times and reached at least 100 receptions in five different seasons. One of his most productive years came in 2017, when he caught 102 passes for 1,393 yards and six touchdowns.
