Lionel Richie is back in the hospital after another health scare during his tour in June.
Fans are hoping for the best and nervous about the worst after news of the legendary singer’s hospitalization. Fortunately, early details about the ordeal sound promising about the severity. According to TMZ, a source close to the situation confirmed that Lionel was being proactive about his health when he checked himself into the hospital. He had just finished singing “All Night Long” at The Muny in Forest Park.
Lionel reportedly wanted doctors to test for possible dehydration and expects to be released by Tuesday. Despite finishing out his set as promised, attendees reportedly noticed that he struggled by the closing song. Witnesses claim he needed a chair brought onstage so he could continue singing while seated.
Dehydration and exhaustion are serious matters to monitor, especially for a 77-year-old, but this is a big relief compared to Lionel’s incident back in June. While performing in St. Paul, Minnesota, he announced to the crowd that he became overwhelmed with feeling “dizzy” and “strange.”
“When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your a** down,,” he jokingly said before taking a seat at the piano to perform “Three Times a Lady,” according to the Minnesota Star Tribune. Shortly after that candid confession, he took an unexpected break from the stage.
The Commodores star had to end that show early and receive medical care backstage from paramedics, who rushed him to the hospital by ambulance. That incident took place on the opening night of his Sing A Song All Night Long Tour with Earth, Wind & Fire.
He quickly returned to the stage, seemingly without any incidents until Saturday night. The “Dancing on the Ceiling” singer is next scheduled to take the stage on Sept. 26 in San Francisco.
Hopefully, the beloved legend is right about leaving the hospital soon with a fast and full recovery. An outpouring of shock and support has flooded social media as his hospitalization makes headlines.
