The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has congratulated one of its members, Sunusi Musa, SAN, on his appointment as Chairman of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement, the NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, said the appointment reflects Musa’s background in law and public affairs.
“Your remarkable depth of experience in law and public engagement makes you exceptionally suited for this important national assignment,” Osigwe stated. “The NBA is proud and confident that you will bring wisdom, balance, and strategic leadership to the IPCR in advancing the cause of peace and unity across our country. We wish you a successful tenure. Congratulations, Learned Silk!”
Sunusi Musa became a Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2022. He is known for work in public interest litigation, legislative drafting, and human rights cases.
Born in Kano in 1978, he graduated from Bayero University in 2005 and was called to the bar in 2006. He holds a postgraduate diploma in education and a master’s degree in legislative drafting.
Musa has won cases at the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal, and represented victims of the Apo killings at the ECOWAS Court.
He has also participated in political activities. In 2018, he led the Nigeria Consolidation Ambassadors Network, which supported President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election. He has handled several electoral litigation cases across Nigeria.
The IPCR, under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, handles conflict resolution and peace efforts in Nigeria. Musa’s appointment comes at a time of rising insecurity and growing calls for improved national cohesion.
The NBA said it hopes Musa’s leadership will make a meaningful contribution to the work of the IPCR. “This appointment comes at a time Nigeria needs fresh and innovative approaches to peacebuilding,” the statement added.
