Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has unveiled Nigeria’s final 23-man squad for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), with former CHAN standout Papa Daniel notably absent following his recent move to Slovenia.
The squad features a strong domestic flavour, with Nigerian champions Remo Stars contributing eight players.
The team will represent Nigeria at the 8th edition of the tournament, which will be hosted jointly by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from August 2 to 30.
Among those selected are captain Junior Harrison Nduka, striker Godwin Obaje, and versatile defender Sikiru Alimi. Goalkeeper Ozoemena Ani, defenders Sodiq Ismaila and Stephen Mayo, midfielders Hadi Haruna and Alex Oyowah, and forwards Anas Yusuf and Ijoma Anthony also make the cut.

Papa Daniel, who played a vital role in Nigeria’s qualification campaign, has been left out after sealing a move to Slovenian side NK Celje earlier this week. The 23-year-old had also featured for the senior Super Eagles in May’s Unity Cup clash against Ghana in London.
Chelle’s team has spent several weeks preparing at the Remo Stars Sports Institute in Ogun State. They are scheduled to depart for Zanzibar on Thursday aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight.

A second-phase training camp will take place in Zanzibar from July 25 to 31.
The Nigeria Football Federation has arranged two warm-up games against the senior national team of Zanzibar on July 28 and 31 as final tune-ups before the competition kicks off.
The Super Eagles B team, silver medallists in 2018 and bronze winners in 2014, will compete in Group D alongside defending champions Senegal, Sudan, and Congo.

Their opening two group games — against Senegal and Sudan — will be staged at the Amman Stadium in Zanzibar, while the final group match against Congo will take place at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The 2024 CHAN is set to feature 19 teams and offers another opportunity for home-based players to prove themselves on the continental stage.
