The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially approved November 15 and 16 for the election of new members into the National Working Committee (NWC).

The decision was ratified during the NEC meeting held on Thursday at the PDP’s national secretariat in Abuja.

Previously, PDP governors had proposed August 28 for the party’s national convention back in April, during the height of the crisis surrounding the national secretary’s position.

Reading a communiqué issued after the meeting, PDP spokesperson Debo Ologunagba said NEC reaffirmed that the party remains “strong, united, cohesive, stable, and focused”.

“Pursuant to the foregoing, NEC approved the year 2025 elective national convention schedule of activities and timetable,” the communiqué reads.

“Under the approved timetable, the elective national convention to elect the next set of national officers of our party will be held on Saturday, 15th to Sunday, 16th November, 2025 in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.”

Ologunagba further disclosed that NEC mandated Umar Damagum, the acting national chairman, and Samuel Anyanwu, the national secretary, to notify the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) about the schedule, location, and agenda of the convention.

He also stated that NEC had approved the membership composition of the national convention committee, as well as the zoning committee, to ensure what he called a “successful, transparent, and credible elective national convention.”

In another resolution, Ologunagba said the NEC instructed the NWC to “take immediate legal action to recover the seats of all serving members of the national and state assemblies” who were elected under the PDP but have since defected to other parties.

He added that NEC expressed “serious concern and frowns at” the involvement of some PDP members in the activities, meetings, and gatherings of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.

“NEC calls on these members to reconsider their actions and show loyalty and commitment as members of the PDP, especially as the law does not permit membership of two political parties at the same time,” he said.

The PDP spokesperson concluded by announcing that NEC has scheduled its next meeting for August 25.
