Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has ordered an investigation into the role of the Commissioner for Transport, Alhaji Ibrahim Namadi, in securing bail for a suspected drug trafficker, Sulaiman Aminu Dan Wawu.
The directive followed public criticism after documents linked the commissioner to the release of the suspect. Dan Wawu is reported to be involved in drug-related activities, and his release has drawn reactions from civil society groups and residents.
A statement issued on Saturday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, confirmed the setting up of an investigative committee.
“To ensure transparency and accountability, His Excellency, the Governor, has set up a high-powered committee to investigate the matter and recommend appropriate action,” the statement read.
The committee is chaired by Barrister Aminu Hussain, Special Adviser to the Governor on Justice and Constitutional Matters. Other members include Barr. Hamza Haladu, Barr. Hamza Nuhu Dantani, Alhaji Abdullahi Mahmoud Umar, Maj. Gen. Sani Muhammad (Rtd.), Comrade Kabiru Said Dakata, and Hajiya Bilkisu Maimota as Secretary.
Governor Yusuf stated, “Our administration has zero tolerance for drug trafficking and any form of complicity in social vices. We will not shield anyone, no matter how highly placed, if found guilty.”
He also said, “This government was elected on the promise of transparency, justice, and a clean break from impunity. We will not hesitate to act decisively once the investigation is concluded.”
The committee is to begin work immediately and submit its findings without delay.
