- In a now-viral tweet, Noble Igwe threw his weight behind legendary entertainer, Charly Boy, stating that regardless of the renaming, the singer-turned-activist’s place in Nigerian history remains solid.
Popular media personality, Noble Igwe, has reacted to the recent decision by the Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos to rename the famous Charly Boy Bus Stop after award-winning rapper, Olamide Baddo.
The bus stop, which has been popularly known as Charly Boy for years, will now be officially called Baddo Bus Stop, in honour of the “Wo!!” crooner who hails from Bariga.
In a now-viral tweet, Noble Igwe threw his weight behind legendary entertainer, Charly Boy, stating that regardless of the renaming, the singer-turned-activist’s place in Nigerian history remains solid.
“Charly Boy isn’t just an ordinary figure, he’s earned his place in the history books.
You don’t have to like him, but renaming a bus stop won’t erase his legacy,” he wrote.
Mixed Reactions Trail The Move
While some Lagosians and Olamide fans have applauded the renaming, calling it well-deserved for a hometown hero, others feel it’s a disrespect to Charly Boy, who played a significant role in shaping Nigeria’s alternative music and youth activism scene.
Interestingly, Charly Boy himself responded with a short but pointed message on social media:
“Na dem sabi.”
