Residents of Yanshuni village in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State have paid ₦7.5 million to a notorious bandit leader, Kwashen-garwa, as part of a ₦15 million levy he demanded from them.

The forced payment was disclosed by a security analyst known as Bakatsine in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday night.

“Yesterday evening, amid protests on the Bakori–Funtua road, Yanshuni residents in Bakori LGA, Katsina State paid ₦7.5M to bandit leader Kwashen-garwa, half of the ₦15M tax he imposed on them. The rest is due after harvest,” Bakatsine wrote.

The payment was reportedly made on Saturday as residents staged a protest along the Bakori–Funtua road, frustrated by the burden placed on them and the silence of the authorities.

As of the time of filing this report, the Katsina State Government and security agencies have not issued any official comment on the development.
