Farmer killed as elephants escape from Ogun State Forest Reserve

A farmer simply identified as Musa Kalamu has been killed by some elephants which escaped from the Ogun State Forest Reserve, the state government has said.

The Commissioner of Police for Ogun Command, Lanre Ogunlowo while speaking to journalists on Tuesday said the herd of elephants killed Kalamu Onitasin Imobi.

Onitasin Imobi is a local community in the Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State.

According to Ogunlowo, the Divisional Police Officer in Ogbere had received a call about an attack by the animals at 4.20 pm on Monday.

Also confirming the incident, the Ogun State Commissioner for Forestry, Taiwo Oludotun the incident happened about the same time the police indicated.

“The DPO Ogbere received information from the Itasin community on 28/07/2025 at about 1620hrs that elephants escaped from the government reserve and attacked one Musa Kalamu who died on the way to the hospital.

“Officers of Ogun State Forestry were contacted to curtail the animals from further damage. Calm has returned to the community,” Oludotun stated.

He also stated that the officials from the ministry are already on their way to the community to address the issue.
