Wrestling Legend, Rey Misterio Sr. passes away at 66

The legend of Mexican wrestling Rey Misterio Sr. has passed away at age 66.

Mysterio Sr.’s death. was revealed on Facebook on Friday, December 20 by his son El Hijo de Rey Misterio (Miguel Aarón López Hernández) who is actually Miguel Ángel López Días.

“Friends and family, I regret to inform you that my Father, Miguel Ángel López Días, Rey Misterio Sr., Passed away this morning…I will keep you informed. Thank you,” read the statement, originally posted in Spanish. A cause of death was not announced.

Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide a Mexican wrestling organization confirmed the news in a social media statement.

“We mourn the sensitive passing of Miguel Ángel López Días, known as Rey Misterio Sr. We send our deepest condolences to your loved ones and lift our prayers to heaven for your eternal rest,” the statement, originally posted in Spanish, read.

Mysterio Sr. is the uncle of current WWE superstar Rey Misterio.

Dominik Misterio another WWE star and Misterios son responded to his passing by posting images of him on Instagram with a note in the caption. “🖤.”

His passing occurred almost one month after Roberto Gutierrez Misterios’s father passed away in November at the age of 76. 17.

Mysterio Sr. before making his wrestling debut in 1976 he started his career as a boxer.

Misterio Mr. won several titles during his career including the WWA World Junior Light Heavyweight Championship and the IWC World Middleweight Championship.

He also won the Revolution Tag Team Championship which he shared with his son according to Newsweek.
