A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has expressed concern over the soaring electricity costs in Nigeria, especially for consumers under the Band A category.

Recall that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission in April 2024 approved a 300 per cent increase in the electricity tariff for Band A.

Following the enforcement on April 1, 2024, power Distribution Companies, DisCos raised electricity prices for urban consumers to N225 ($0.15) per kilowatt-hour from N68.

However, the increment has not been sitting well with customers, who have consistently called for the rehearsal.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Igbokwe lamented that himself and some other customers on Band A have been unable to use home appliances.

Urging President Bola Tinubu to revisit the policy, Igbokwe said they now switch off Air Conditioners, fridges and other appliances due to high cost.

The APC chieftain wrote, “I pray that PBAT will revisit the Electricity Band A matter.

“I do not think Distribution Companies are making the money they expected because we are switching off ACs, fridges, lights. Take all to Band B, make more money.”
