President Bola Tinubu has announced cash gifts, new homes, and national honours to the Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress.
This followed their victorious outing at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.
Vice President Kashim Shettima represented Tinubu.
Each player on the winning team will receive a cash reward of $100,000, a new apartment, and the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
The reward was announced on Monday at a reception held in honour of the team at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
D’Tigress on Sunday secured a record fifth consecutive AfroBasket title, defeating Mali 78–64 in the final in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The win also marked Nigeria’s seventh AfroBasket title overall and extended their unbeaten run in the tournament to 29 consecutive games since 2015.
Similar national honours and gifts were also given to the Super Falcons last week for winning a 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco.
