Local residents suspect that toxic fumes from a generator may have caused the tragedy.

A relative of the victims, Ibrahim Samanja, said he discovered the bodies on Tuesday morning after repeated knocking on their door went unanswered.

“I arrived there around 7am, I kept knocking and there was no response, that made me suspicious, so I forced the door open and I found them dead,”
he said.

Local officials and health personnel were contacted immediately, but later confirmed their deaths.

The corpses were sent to Marama General Hospital for further investigations.

Community members described the tragedy as a great loss especially that the family had shown no signs of illness or distress before the incident.

Preliminary investigations showed no signs of violence or struggle, which further supports the suspicion that generator fumes may have been the cause.
