According to the report, 37-year-old woman, Akanji Kofoworola was arraigned for allegedly sharing defamatory posts about the actress on Facebook.
The case was brought before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Lagos, where Kofoworola was arraigned by police officers from the Zone Police Command, Onikan, as reported by The Vanguard.
According to prosecutor Haruna Ibrahim, the defendant alongside other bloggers who are still at large has, since 2023, allegedly posted false and obscene material about the actress through her Facebook account.
Police claim that the posts were deliberately aimed at tarnishing Lizzy Anjorin’s image, and that Kofoworola was aware the content she shared was untrue.
The charge stated:
“She knowingly shared false statements and rumours about Lizzy Anjorin, which contravenes sections 39, 57, and 150 of the Lagos Criminal Laws.”
These allegations are considered serious offences under the Lagos State Criminal Laws of 2015.
Kofoworola pleaded not guilty. While the prosecutor requested that she be remanded due to the severity of the case and the ongoing investigation, her lawyer countered by filing for bail, stressing that the charges are bailable and that she would not hinder the investigation.
Presiding Magistrate Wahab Balogun granted her bail in the sum of ₦100,000, with two sureties in like amount. The sureties are required to provide proof of tax payments and must reside within Lagos State.
