Ibom Air has announced an indefinite flight ban on a passenger, Ms. Comfort Emmanson.
This followed her violent assault on its crew members during a Lagos-bound flight, describing her actions as a serious threat to safety.
Recall that we had reported that incident which occurred on Sunday, August 10, 2025, aboard a Uyo–Lagos flight.
According to a statement released by the airline on Monday, Emmanson refused repeated instructions to switch off her mobile phone before take-off, prompting intervention by a fellow passenger.
This, the airline said, triggered a verbal outburst from her, though the situation was initially calmed and the flight proceeded as scheduled.
Upon arrival in Lagos, Emmanson allegedly waited for other passengers to disembark before confronting the Purser, who had earlier given the safety instruction.
The airline accused her of forcibly tearing off the Purser’s wig, removing her glasses, throwing them to the floor, and using her footwear to assault her. She allegedly slapped the crew member several times, attacked another cabin crew member who intervened, and attempted to remove a fire extinguisher to use as a weapon.
The statement added that the Pilot-in-Command alerted airport security, and viral footage shows the Purser preventing the passenger from leaving the aircraft until help arrived. Emmanson was subsequently taken into custody by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) security and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation.
Even after security’s arrival, the airline said, the passenger continued her violent behaviour, attacking Ibom Air security personnel and slapping the ground supervisor. She was eventually restrained and removed by force.
Ibom Air confirmed that a report has been submitted to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and that Emmanson has been permanently barred from flying with the airline.
Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy towards unruly conduct, the carrier warned that any behaviour endangering passengers, crew, or equipment would attract the strongest possible response, including legal action and permanent travel restrictions.
The development comes less than a week after popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1), was accused of obstructing a ValueJet Airlines aircraft from taking off in Abuja.
