A driver who smuggled a Nigerian woman into Libya has been arrested.

He was arrested in the coastal town of Brega in Libya for attempting to smuggle an undocumented female migrant from Nigeria.

Migrant Rescue Watch in a post on Sunday, August 10, 2025 said police in Brega made the arrest during a routine patrol.

According to the organisation, the driver claimed that the female was his mother but the ID presented did not match the person in question.

Further investigation revealed that the driver received 1,000 LYD (ca. 185 USD) for transport of the person from Benghazi to Fezzan.

The case was referred by Bishr Police Dept. to public prosecution.
