IGP Orders Investigation Into KWAM1’s Airport Incident

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has directed the Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, to immediately commence a thorough investigation.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has ordered the investigation over an alleged incident involving singer Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (popularly known as KWAM 1) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on August 5.

The Nigeria Police Force stated this after receiving an official petition from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

The singer was caught on tape standing in front of a plane, preventing it from taxing after the airline officials refused him to fly with a flask they suspected contained alcohol.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority NCAA had petitioned the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police to launch a thorough investigation into the incident.

In a statement released this evening August  12, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has directed the Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, to immediately commence a thorough investigation into the matter, to unravel the circumstances which led to the ugly incident and ensure justice is served accordingly.

Adejobi added that the Force assures the public of its commitment to upholding safety and security within Nigeria’s aviation sector, while assuring stakeholders in the sector of improved collaboration towards aviation security and strict compliance with aviation laws.
