Israel’s military says it has intercepted a missile launched from Yemen, in what the Iran-aligned Houthi movement claims was an attack on Tel Aviv’s main airport.
In a statement posted on Telegram, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said its air force “successfully intercepted a missile fired from Yemen” before it reached Israeli territory.
Hours later, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group had launched a “Palestine 2 hypersonic ballistic missile” aimed at Ben Gurion Airport, describing it as part of their ongoing campaign in solidarity with the Palestinians.
The Houthis have stepped up missile and drone attacks on Israel since Hamas’s October 2023 assault triggered the ongoing Gaza war.
Their operations paused briefly during a two-month ceasefire earlier this year, but resumed in March after Israel renewed large-scale military activity in the Strip.
Israel has responded with targeted strikes on Houthi-controlled territory, including ports and Sanaa’s international airport.
The confrontation marks yet another front in the widening regional conflict, which has also drawn in armed groups in Lebanon, Iraq, and Syria.
