The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma has met with the leadership of the Department of State Services, DSS, and the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons, NCCSALW, at the Command Headquarters, Owerri with the aim of strengthening inter-agency collaboration against illegal proliferation of small arms and light weapons within the State.
The DSS was led by the new State Director, Godwin Uche Dunku, along with its top officers, while NCCSALW was led by its Southeast Zonal Director, Capt.C.N.Anushiem, Rtd.
The visit, according to the Police Spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, was geared towards maintaining the long-standing professional relationship between the Police, NCCSALW and DSS in safeguarding lives and property within the State.
He stated that the agencies held robust discussions on intelligence gathering, timely information sharing, and coordinated operational responses to emerging threats, with special emphasis on early detection and prevention of violent crimes through proactive inter-agency engagement.
In his speech, Dunku, emphasized the need for continued synergy and collaboration between the Police and the Department of State Services against illegal possession of firearms by criminals threatening the peace of the State.
He added that such cooperation was critical to sustaining public orderliness and stability.
Making his speech, NCCSALW Director said that the meeting was crucial as it availed the opportunity for the security agencies to seek ways of deepening cooperation in the fight against the proliferation of small arms and light weapons, which according to him, remained a significant backbone of violent crime within the southeast region.
During his own remarks, the Police Commissioner, lauded DSS and NCCSALW for their consistent support and dedication to national security.
He reiterated the Command’s readiness to maintain open channels of communication with both agencies in tackling security challenges.
CP. Dajuma pledged the Command’s full support in all arms control operations within the State, assuring the delegation that the police would continue to partner with them to ensure a safer and more secured environment.
