Imo police dislodges suspected IPOB camp, recovers arms

Imo State Police Command has dislodged criminal elements operating within Njaba LGA of the State.

According to a press statement issued from the desk of the spokesperson of the Command, DSP Henry Okoye, the operatives of the Command, in synergy with other security agencies, carried out what he stated to be well coordinated operation at Ubaa, Umuaka in Njaba axis where the hideouts of the criminal gang suspected to be IPOB members were successfully dislodged.

The operation, according to him, was based on credible intelligence and confessional statements from arrested suspects, Uchenna Opara and Ozioma Ihedoro.

He said that the suspects, on sighting the operatives, opened fire but were overpowered by the firepower of the security forces, forcing them to flee into the adjoining bushes with gunshot injuries.

Okoye hinted that a thorough search of the dislodged camps led to the recovery of one POS machine, one AK-47 rifle with three magazines, 40 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition, 60 rounds of live General Purpose Machine Gun, GPMG, ammunition.

Others are two pump-action guns, and five hundred and eighty-two live cartridges.

He revealed that an investigation is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Following the development, the Police Commissioner of the State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, in synergy with other security agencies, called on the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons with gunshot injuries to the nearest police station.
